You obeyed if only to hope he would talk to you, huffing as you stood up, a hip popped out as you tapped your fingertips across your forearm, hands laced under your chest.
With a mere twitch of his hand, the familiar press of his power manifested. Your wrists were drawn together above your head, suspended in place by a gravitational field that was imperceptible yet inescapable. Your legs, too, were manipulated, gently parted, your feet gliding across the floor until you were standing exposed, restrained but untouched.

“I asked you a question,” he pressed, his firm tone sending heat pooling low in your belly.
“You’re going to have to tell me what you want, my love.”
His hand slides from holding your chin back to the sides of your neck, fingertips tracing light patterns along your sensitive skin, teasing, until you shiver.
“Otherwise,” he said, the corner of his mouth curling with knowing amusement, “how am I supposed to please you in return?”

Hunter school wasn’t cheap, even for a scholarship student like you, yet she was renting a penthouse apartment in the nicest part of town, keeping her designer wardrobe up to date with the latest bags, shoes and trends, and giving you rides home in her brand new, polar white Mercedes-Benz whenever you needed it after classes.
“I have someone who…looks after me,” she smiled, suddenly demure, an answer to your unspoken question because you weren’t very subtle in your admiration of her car’s high-spec interiors and the way you caressed the soft leather of your seat next to your thigh.
“Like…your parents?” you asked naively, and she laughed like you were purposefully trying to amuse her.

Summary

Regardless, being a leader means she is a sturdy foundation for himself to latch on to, if he can manipulate her to care for him. She's prone to waxing poetics and altruistic to a fault, the perfect victim for his ministrations – so imagine his surprise when she turns out to be more complex than he gave her credit for.
Why, exactly, has she been hiding from society? Prim carries herself as if she would never do any wrong, but when provoked, she's shockingly deadly. The more time he spends with her, the more he has a suspicion that there's something dark lurking beneath the surface…. Perhaps it's time to find out.

Summary
With total freedom comes the total responsibility for one's actions.
Astarion's new life has gotten off to a wonderful start. After beating the Elder Brain, he and Calanthe have enjoyed their new celebrity status - welcomed and accommodated everywhere they go while they travel and celebrate their triumphs. It is certainly novel for a vampire, but that novelty soon dries up as they face meeting Calanthe's family.
The judgement of the moon elves runs deep and Astarion is forced to face some unpleasant truths he has been ignoring since leaving Baldur's Gate.
Through that judgement Astarion realizes that to become the man he wants to be...he must walk a path that will lead him away from his beloved.

Heartbroken and enraged at her family's interference, Calanthe makes a mistake that she cannot take back. Alone and miserable, when she and Astarion are reunited some time later, they both must face the difficulties of finding each other again after so much has changed.
Astarion's healing journey continues in the sequel to "Healing like a Slow Burn", and features themes of responsibility, struggles with intimacy, and the maturation of a war-time romance to true and stable love.
