Grimmauld Place was thoroughly unwelcoming: the portraits had begun spitting monologues about blood purity and the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black as soon as they’d seen Harry at the door, the house was a maze of twisted, narrow halls and staircases that were as misleading as they were old, and the door had tried to seal itself shut once it sensed Remus stepping closer.
There wasn’t a single thing anyone could’ve done or said that would’ve made him think of it as anything other than the greatest place in the world.

Its eyes are green, but not like Harry’s; they’re nearly lime green, odd and unblinking and somehow both ill fitting and in perfect accordance to the creature’s strange look.
Harry manages to stay silent, but only barely; shouting wouldn’t do him any good. The Durlseys would walk in here, freak out, leave him to deal with it on his own, and then punish him because of the thing getting in the house, even though Harry had nothing to do with it.
Downstairs, the door opens, and Harry hears Dudley say, “Mr. Mason, a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Mason, you look lovely tonight.”

“Carl! Let me up!” Jasper tried to sound authoritative but it came out high pitched and alarmed. Yeah, Carl thought wearily. It had been entirely too long and Jasper’s behaviour was suffering for it.Truthfully he wasn’t convinced he should be the one fixing that, given the fact he was a fucking disaster right now himself, but Jasper didn’t need to see him falling apart.
“I will, when we’re done here,” Carl countered calmly as his hand settled on Jasper’s thigh. “Which won’t be until you’ve convinced me you’ve learned your lesson.”
