OC isekai just the way I like it: no unnecessary padding, details in all the right places making amestris really seem like a living setting, doesn’t rehash canon, SI far enough removed from the main characters and living her own life, and enough intersection with the characters we do know. Really puts into perspective just how young the elric brothers were, surrounded by all these military adults. Great characterization for them, strikes the right balance of child and genius, bold and brash and so adorable. Plus, the cockblock scene was too funny.

“Not all soldiers see the front lines,” Mum says, a touch uselessly. “Not all State Alchemists even serve in the field.”
Ed shakes his head. “It’s war in Ishval, Mum,” he says. “It’s only a matter of time.”
Mum does not live long enough to see the truth in Edward’s words. She doesn’t live long enough to see him throw away his principles, either, though, so there’s that.
(AKA, an AU where Ed was born several years earlier than in canon, finds himself in the military under a different set of circumstances, and discovers, aged 15, just how much war changes things.)
