‘Yeah?’ JJ responds, turning to her and taking a sip of his drink waiting for her to continue.

The pogues made it to the island and everyone is safe and alive. Right? Well, why can't Kiara stop staring at JJ and why can't she stop her hands from shaking and her chest from burning? A little something that popped into my head that I couldn't get rid of until I wrote it down.
JJ tightened his grip on her hand as she turned away to the ocean, watched her open her mouth again, ready to argue but he gave her fingers a squeeze and said, “uh, um” he cleared his throat, “promise me that after you’ve helped me, you’ll let me help you.”
The girl squinted down at him, confused, “sorry to disappoint but I don’t have any head wounds that need seeing to, Maybank.” Her attempt at joking fell flat when her gaze went straight to his head, her brow furrowing once more.
