    Summary

"I cannot give you an Heir once you are Sovereign King, Neuvillette." Wriothesley says this with no bite. They've spoken in circles around the matter of succession for the past few months. Dragons spar with potential mates until death, and the most formidable one survives, for Neuvillette to claim as his mate.

"Let's not." Neuvillette sighs. It's a weary thing and he turns in Wriothesley's hold to meet his gaze. His fingertips are cool, smoothing over Wriothesley's jaw where stubble just begins to show. He thumbs over lips, as if mapping Wriothesley's face to memory. "May I enjoy you tonight? May we forget the Council's politics for a moment?"

"If I am not to fight for your honour…" Wriothesley pauses, and kisses the tips of those fingers, eyes heavy-lidded, "then take this mortal as your lover, and let me warm your bed as long as I am able to."

    - Wriothesley, Shield and General of the Crown, guards a relationship kept secret with the Sovereign Heir himself, as war looms over the horizon. Will love in the face of such tragedy prevail, when their coupling is destined to remain forbidden fruit?

    Summary

At a nearby table outside, a Melusine named Pip had climbed onto the back of a bench to get a better view.

“Do you think they’ll kiss?” she whispered to Clorinde.

“They don’t even know they’re on a date,” Clorinde hissed back. “They think this is a committee meeting.”

Pip frowned. “Are they always like this?”

Navia leaned over the table, an entire organizational binder of “Intervention Protocols for Romantically Repressed Men” open in her lap. “This is advanced-stage oblivious. I’ve seen rocks with more self-awareness.”

Charlotte looked up from her surveillance sketchpad—yes, she was sketching this. For posterity. “I’ve got a shot of Wriothesley staring at Neuvillette’s hands like they hold the answers to the universe.”

    “They do,” said Clorinde grimly.

In which two deeply repressed men share tea, an umbrella, and several near-fatal amounts of yearning while all of Fontaine loses its collective mind.

    Summary

“How do you sleep at night?”

Wolfwood scowls at the garden. He’s sitting on the big porch watching Vash and Jessica and a handful of other trouble makers toddle around in the squash patch, hunting bugs. The sun is going down, allowing for a break in the heat. Wolfwood has been lounging here for a few hours, and Midvalley has come to bother him. The other man slipped up close to him, leaned on the rail much like Wolfwood is. He watches Vash squawk with laughter and dance away from the large beetle that one of the kiddos thrusts at him. He’s lovely in the dusk. Dark hair pulled back in a slipping ponytail, in a sleeveless shirt his skin sun burnt and freckled. His scars glitter in the suns, pink-silver lines. Sunglasses perched on his nose, a smile, real, spread across his face.

    Wolfwood chews a toothpick flat.

    “Poorly.”

    Summary

Project SEEDS was one of the leading organizations in hybrid rescue, rehabilitation, and release. Vash was a bit of a star employee, known for taking on impossible cases no one dared touch with a fifty foot pole.

And then he got assigned a wolf hybrid with the kindest pair of eyes, contrasting with the meanest set of teeth.

Unfortunately for Wolfwood, Vash wasn't a quitter. Unfortunately for Vash, Wolfwood fell harder than a flimsy house of cards.

    Summary

He heard Punisher slam onto the ground in front of him, could feel the too-cold metal against his hand. Cold, because he hadn’t been firing it. Cold, because it wasn’t warm from the heat of a fight.

“I was waiting for you to launch your antiphase sound waves,” Wolfwood said, jaw protesting the act of speaking. He opened his eyes - only to realize they were already open.

He had a half-beat of panic, before quickly shoving it back into its place. Reaching up, he pressed against one side of his face, feeling the grind of bone as the hinge of his jaw slid back into its socket. Jaw, back in its place. Panic, back in its place. Disallowed to exist.
