The consequence of his audacity to exist is pain. There is not a world where it is different. There is not a world where he knows peace. His flesh aches with the weight of sentience and responsibility. Maybe if he fought harder, kicked faster, bit harder, screamed louder, he would not carry the heavy cloud of wrongness that has forever made itself a home upon his bent back. He is aware that it is his fault. There is not a world where it isn’t. He is nothing if not prey.

Hitoshi's heart nearly pounds out of his chest as he stares up at the man, vision blurred with tears and shoulders tensed in preparation for a blow. "I'm not here to hurt you," the man says, voice low and calm. Now that he's right there, Hitoshi can see him better.
The man has long black hair, and he's dressed all in black too, save for the comedically large scarf wound around his neck. Scarf? Hitoshi's eyes widen as he realizes — Eraserhead? Eri peeks her head out from behind Hitoshi's legs, though she clutches the fabric of his pants tightly in her fists. "Eraserhead?" Her voice cracks a little when she speaks, but the man definitely hears her.
(Or, Hitoshi and Eri are siblings and escape an abusive foster home only to be found by the one and only pro-hero Eraserhead.)

Sometimes, Hitoshi pretended that Sensei was his dad. He'd never admit it in a thousand years, but sometimes when Aizawa patted his head or praised him for finally pulling off a move he'd been struggling with — he imagined that Todoroki was right.
Hitoshi always gave off that he was annoyed about Todoroki’s insistence that he was their teacher's secret love child, but in his head, he wished for it more than anything in the world. He wished that it was Aizawa and Yamada that he went home to every night instead of the Fukushimas. That he could call Eri his little sister instead of just someone he wished he could be.
(Or, stuck in an abusive foster home, Hitoshi is on the edge of his rope.)

Because why would anyone want someone mean, difficult, and hard to love, when they had a sweet, lovable little girl?

really well done balance between angst and story and character development. the angst isn't so heavy that it drags the story down, felt very realistic to how a kid in that situation might feel. excellent!
