There isn't really a height difference between them, but the older man is thicker, heavier with age and muscle and time. He's broader and probably stronger, if not for the injury. Dean could outrun him, if he had to, but to where? His own front door?
He reaches out a hand to touch Mr. Novak's belt, presses a finger to the silver buckle there.

It's Summer in Sugar Run, Florida. John has disappeared to God knows where, and Dean is doing whatever he can to make ends meet and keep food on the table. Eddie does remember that first sight of Ollie on Mt. Rainier though, confident in the midst of the blinding snow and the Dragon’s company. By the time they’d met, Oliver had already killed and the muted green of his eyes had shifted from front-page pictures of glory days to the real thing, but Eddie had been interested then and he’s interested now.

Summary
In-between these deserted stretches of highway and the rare glare of too-bright passing headlights in the night, Eddie keeps an eye on the kid. It’s dark enough that the contrasts that constitute so much of Connor have deepened, and in the low light his blonde hair seems almost too fair against his dark skin. He’s got a lot of Ollie in him and it’s all the good parts, too.
(After the dragon's blood, Connor's got something he needs to work through.)
