Emperor Korn clapped again, just once, and all the air in the throne room was suddenly sucked out through the open windows.
Because what emerged from between the fluttering material covering the litter was not a tiger cub or a trained bear or a couple of dancers meant to entertain them for the afternoon. No, the first thing to appear from between the folded lengths of jewel-toned material was a set of hands. They were slender, long-fingered hands attached to wrists that had been crossed and bound with silk rope.
The hands and tied wrists were followed by a pair of strong arms, a lowered head, a torso, legs…
Porchay blinked rapidly to clear what was surely a hallucination from his eyes, but the impossible image refused to fade. There was a person suddenly standing at the base of the dais. A man with dark hair pulled halfway out of his face and a distinctly sharp jawline.
