Summary
In all the stories where a traveler leaves home, embarking on an important task, the bards all focus on the thrilling bits and never get around to mentioning how the first obstacle is invariably the journey itself. Road dust in unmentionable places, how fresh water is hard to come by, the cost of maintaining equipment against bandits and worse, the list goes on. A broken wheel could mean the difference between a few days on the road and a week trying to make repairs.
No one wants to be caught sitting ducks in demon territory. Especially not when it’s pissing freezing cold sheets of rain from on high.
It could be worse, Ichigo thinks to himself, trying for optimism and ending up only bitter. One of their steam wagons could have sprung a leak.
He curls up under his heavy cloak, simultaneously shivering and sweating miserably in the soup-like humidity gathering around his preternaturally warm skin. It could always be worse.

His hands wandered constantly, greedy. One gripped Yuuji's hip hard enough to bruise while the other slid under the omega, over his stomach to his chest, feeling how his heart was slamming into his rib cage.
"I love you, Yuuji," Sukuna rasped against his ear. "I love you."
Another harsh thrust punched out a cry from Yuuji's throat. Omega trembled violently beneath him, body oversensitive and exhausted, but Sukuna only groaned at the feeling. His pace lost rhythm as he chased his bliss. Yuuji's heart was beating wildly against his palm, and Sukuna moaned, kissing his shoulder blade.
That precious heart was his to keep.

Summary
Sukuna isn’t sure how long this kid’ll stay, if he’ll adapt, if this was a stupid decision or not.
A month passes and he’s still not sure.
He is sure by now that Yuuji is not like anyone he’s ever met before. It took a few weeks for him to open up, still reeling with his grandfather dying and his village abandoning him, but now he’s bloomed.
He runs around the Malevolent Shrine like it’s his own home. He eats every meal with Sukuna, digs around for bugs in the gardens, periodically brings a smile to Uraume’s face at his hide and seek antics. He’s been breathing life into the death trap Sukuna has fostered for millenia.
He finds he doesn’t mind it much.
Or which, Sukuna takes in kid Yuuji, watches him grow up, then realizes he means a lot more to him than intended.

They’re panting, pheromones so thick they’re both choking on it. Yuuji’s quick in his aggression, flipping them around and keeping it stable. He’s able to get on top and keep on top for long enough to use his legs to trap Sukuna beneath his weight, landing another punch, the crack of Sukuna’s nose practically echoing in the empty house.
Having done real damage for once, seeing the blood pour from his brother’s nose, he falters. Sukuna wastes no time in grabbing his hips and flipping them back over roughly. Yuuji’s back slams against the floor, taking the breath right out of his lungs. He wants to buck Sukuna off but he’s been pinned for good this time.
Despite being twins and alphas, Sukuna has always been a bit bigger and stronger. Yuuji knows the fight’s over and resigns himself to whatever punch Sukuna’s about to throw.
Instead he just sneers in Yuuji’s face, blood dripping onto his cheeks thickly.
“You really think cause you’re an alpha too that you could actually win against me? Dream on, brat.”
He changes his position, kicking Yuuji’s legs apart and settling between them. Yuuji’s breath hitches.
Or which, Sukuna thinks Yuuji's better as an omega.
