He has his hands over his face so he leans down to get a good look. Then—a blunt jab to his knee sends him to the ground right after. He’s able to catch himself slightly without dropping all of his weight onto John’s body, but it's pointless because John tackles him, flipping them so that Dave’s the one pinned to the ground.
“That’s real dirty, Egbert.”
Silence.
“Wow.” John says.
And he’s just there. Looking down at him in marvel like he was a novelty. Arms around him as though shielding the world from him, or him from the world. Sweat trickles down his face and neck.
“I think I—”
Rookie mistake.

Set somewhat post Episode 5, but prior to Episode 8. An AU with the 'Reader' entering the Circus and altering the perceptions of the adventures and functioning as a sounding board for Caine...who is rather good at not listening. Chapter 1 introduces the Reader to the Circus, and subsequent chapters will gently delve into acclimating to it. This tale will eventually have explicit content, the tags will be updated accordingly with subsequent chapters, but ultimately this is a slow burn story. Don't expect things to get intense quickly.

This series will be based in a first person point of perspective on L's life. Not much is known about L in the series canonically, but this series aims to put some more... flesh? To his character. I'm trying to keep the main character as subjective as possible so that it's easy enough to project on to them, though there will be some basic traits and background characteristics for plot point. Loving someone with a perpetual existential crisis is not easy; not for either parties. The days can blend together in a pattern of predictable shapes and leave a stagnant, bland taste in one's mouth. Sun rarely shines through those thick clouds, but when it does; it is beyond beautiful. It is achingly glorious and the warmth of those rays makes the rain worth it.
To know there is a chance for better...it is worth every heavy drop of rain. Every night laid in silence and frantic speculation to the validity of living is justified on those sunny days.
