"Of course I am," Sam answers the same time Bucky responds with, "Absolutely not."
Raynor sighs, "Well it goes like this. Suppose that while your sleeping, a miracle happens, when you wake up, what's something you would like to see that would make your life better?"
"In my miracle," Bucky starts, throwing her head towards Sam, "she would talk less."
Sam wants to agree, wants to snip back with a similarly biting 'that exactly what I was going to say.' because truly, Sam's life would be a lot better if Bucky learnt to shut the fuck up. She doesn't say that, she doesn't say anything at all really. Sam doesn't know what she could have that would make her train wreck of a life feel even slightly better, she can't think of one thing. Not getting the shield back, or stopping the flag smashers, not Steve coming back from the dead, not getting enough money to keep her family's boat, not Barnes fucking off to the most remote corners of the earth, nothing. In Sam's miracle, she does not see herself waking up and that causes a fear to push itself up against all her anger.

Dr Raynor keeps trying to reassure him that he hasn't lost anything, that despite it all he still has those pieces of himself and he still has his womanhood. He can’t find it in himself to believe her, can't help but roll his eyes each time she says it because she doesn't get it. She doesn't get that this started before Hydra, before the war and the army. There has been no point in time that Bucky has truly ever felt connected to womanhood.

Soap knew he was being completely idiotic, even as his fingers ran through the head of blonde hair that rested against his bare chest. Even when the blond lad on top of him tightened his arms around Soap's waist causing his fingers to press slightly into Soap's skin, and Soap had to will his body not to flinch away.

Sam moved his hand to Bucky's pulse point, where it was fast and obviously alive. Bucky closed his eyes for a moment, giving Sam a moment where he could look at his features freely without getting caught in how much he enjoyed looking at him. If Bucky didn't know already. Everything about Bucky was an offer. When he looked up at Sam again, he was wearing an expression Sam hated, one that said that he would give him anything if Sam only got the guts to ask.
"You know I will do anything you want," There it was, the broken spell that took away the possibility of pretending all that touching meant nothing. "I'm good at following orders."
"Don't joke about that," Sam replied. He moved his thumb to Bucky's mouth anyway, testing, and before he could say anything else, Bucky opened his mouth and took it inside.
