Summary
“Well, nice to meet you officially then, Max,” George says as they step away.
For a brief moment, Max thinks this is it. He’s been unmasked, George knows who he is, finally remembers him. But when he looks up, the man is as surprisingly casual as he’s been since they got out of their cars, no recognition in sight. He sighs in relief, nodding as he watches how George offers his hand.
“Yeah. Nice to meet you, George Russell,” he mutters. He delights in the laughter it earns him, George’s palm warm against his own.

Jos Verstappen had a son. A gifted child, a prodigy, promised to a solid racing career- Until he vanished without a trace. Jos pretends the kid simply didn’t have it in him, lacked the drive, tells whoever will listen the boy bolted away as soon as he could.

“I’m George,” the guy – George – says, not offering a hand. “Nice weather out here, don’t know how you race like this.”
Max is busy staring at the pearly whites blinding him. There’s no way this guy hasn’t had work done. Lips like those, plump and pouty, would probably burst if Max bit on them. The paddock has become a cesspool of influencers and celebrities since Netflix came in with their cameras, but it still rubs Max the wrong way, how they prance around knowing nothing about racing and offering their inane opinions.
“It’s fine,” he dismisses, gripping the ball. “I’m good at what I do.”
“I’m sure you are,” George says, flashing another cookie-cutter smile. “Good luck on Sunday, then.”

Summary
The championship was never supposed to come between them.
Max and George keep their relationship hidden, finding each other only in quiet moments between races and interviews. But as the title fight narrows to just the two of them, pressure turns silence into distance, and distance into something that starts to break.

"Are you alright?" The man asked, his words woven with concern— not the faux pity Max was used to receiving, but real, genuine concern. The man frowned, eyebrows knitting together as he nervously fidgeted with the corner of his apron.
Max couldn't answer; it would be a weakness to do so. Every shifter knew there were unspoken rules, and if a strange human spoke to you, you did not talk back.
