The lights in the room are dim—the overhead ones off, only the secondary light from the monitor at Cheng Xiaoshi’s bed and the thin yellow strip under the door. In this low light, he can see the way the bandages wrap around Cheng Xiaoshi’s torso, visible above the hospital-thin blanket that Cheng Xiaoshi has, characteristically, already half-kicked off.
Lu Guang’s eyes track the rise and fall of his chest. Up, down. Up, down.
He keeps doing this. He cannot seem to stop.
Or: Their time in the hospital post the events of season 2.

Cheng Xiaoshi is not a quiet sleeper.
Which is a pretty convenient excuse for Lu Guang to take the top bunk, claiming the mumbling, tossing and turning, the jolting awake would wake him.
Really, Lu Guang appreciates the leverage, the ability to check on Cheng Xiaoshi whenever his nightmares pull him from sleep. Appreciates being allowed to count his breaths and imagine his heartbeats as he takes in Cheng Xiaoshi's mumbles and steady breathing.
He hadn't appreciated it enough, in their first timeline. Had taken the soft breath and subtle creaks for granted.
OR the bed sharing fix I wrote in a manic haze after watching the Bridon Arc that is likely miles away from canon
