    What if Prescott Mill was a little further than just around the corner?

    What if the writers didn't rush emotional development of their characters after introducing the most wrecking situation to be in?

    ~~~
    “I miss my brother,” he hisses into the blanket, grief overtaking his mind. Not rage, though. Not anymore.
    “Oh.” The hand on his hair retracts. The one in his hand tries to follow. “I’m sorry.”
    Cisco catches his other hand on Barry’s and clutches it tight to his chest; It feels like his anchor. Like his lifeline. He hasn’t realized how lonely he’s been while grieving his brother until now.
    Fuck, he misses Dante. He misses his voice. He misses the calls they started having after they made up. He misses getting lunch with him. He misses the way they used to be when they were younger; How Dante would ask him for help with his math homework, how Dante used to pack his lunch in the mornings because their mom had to go to work early.
    He'd just gotten his brother back. Years and years of being angry at him, of not talking, and when they’d finally made up he’d lost him again.
    And now it almost happened twice.
Will and El Jane were so young, only sixteen and having their world literally collapse beneath their feet. They needed their mother at all times. Jonathan knew he could come to her if he needed help, but he didn’t, so he must’ve been fine.
    Will,
    I found this old journal of yours when I was looking for photos to put in your grad album for tomorrow. I thought you would want it. Maybe you’ll find some old drawings!
    Love, Mom
    The day before Will graduates, he reads through his old journal - the entries spanning from 1984 to 1986, narrating the indescribable guilt and shame he felt through those years.
    But he’s made it out now, and decides to write one last entry.
    A letter to his 13 year old self.
    “So you’ve been excited for Prom. Is that it?”
    Will hesitates. “Yeah, I mean— I guess I just sort of…pictured myself with a date.”
    “Oh,” Mike says, a little surprised. He doesn’t really know how to talk to Will about this part of him yet. He usually avoids the topic—unlike their friends—and waits for Will to bring it up first.
    “It’s…stupid, I know.”
    “No!” Mike says quickly. “No, nothing’s stupid.” Suddenly, an idea comes to him. “What if you and I go together?”
    Will has always wanted to go to Prom with a date. And Mike—well, Mike doesn’t have a date, but he does have an idea.
    Summary
    Steve pulled into the driveway and honked his horn, then sat back to wait. It usually took the kid a few minutes to come out no matter how he let him know that he was ready.
    He was not expecting Dustin to immediately come through the door and stop right at his window. Dustin wasn’t quite dressed- he looked like he still had pajama pants on, and he definitely wasn’t wearing any shoes. His hair was more wild than usual, too. Steve gave it a second, but Dustin just stood there and stared at him. With much trepidation, Steve rolled down his window.
    “Mom wants you to come inside,” Dustin told him immediately.
    AKA: Five times the Party’s actual parents stopped Steve to talk, and one time he started the conversation himself.
