Summary
They have thrown the man into the patch of light. He wears dark clothes. Plain. No rings. He has a beard, dark hair. He is in pain, eyes shut tight with it. He's beautiful, or maybe it's been too long since Dunk saw another human who wasn't about to punch him for him to judge beauty properly. Dunk crouches down, touches his shoulder gently. He'd ask if the man was alright, but he isn't.
“My name's Dunk,” he says quietly instead, still touching the man. “There's a loose stone, three up from the ground, and there's a rat that's good to talk to. Sorry you're here.”
When Ser Arlan fights for the Crown at Starpike Castle, his squire, Dunk, manages to get himself thrown in a cell by Lord Peake's men. He might have lost track of the days, but he knows one thing: his cellmate is worth protecting with everything he has.

Summary
In the year 233 A.C., a Great Council was called: at its end, King Aegon Targaryen, Fifth of His Name, ascended the Iron Throne. One of his first acts was to send two of his no-longer-royal relatives to the Wall, escorted by his sworn shield Ser Duncan the Tall.
That was far from the only kindness he did the Seven (Nine) Kingdoms that year.

Summary
Slain you may be, and slain you shall be, they had been told — and slain they had been, all except Maedhros, who wondered sometimes if he would yet live to see the breaking of the world. Perhaps this was it. But it would be a slow death for Maglor, and an ugly one. He must have dealt many such deaths himself: the bodies had still been warm when they had left Sirion. Not all had been bodies, either. The justice of the Valar was very fitting, and very harsh.
Some hours later — Maedhros was never good at keeping track of time, after long decades on Thangorodrim — there was a sound at the door. It was the children again, Elwing’s small sons.
-
Maglor, injured in a skirmish, is lying close to death. Maedhros is preparing to lose him. If only their little hostages would stop haunting his footsteps.
Meanwhile, Elros and Elrond, still unused to life at Amon Ereb, try to come to terms with what Maglor means to them — and with the fact that Elrond might be able to heal him, if he tries.

Maedhros & Maglor Week, Day 4: Heroism/Villainy
“You know,” said Maglor, quite conversationally, “last night, the boys asked me if you hated them.”
“I barely even speak to them," Maedhros said.
Maglor smiled, a sharp tug of his lips. “Exactly.”
[Or: Maedhros used to be Maglor's hero. But these days, he’ll play the bad guy, if it means Elrond and Elros think of Maglor a little more kindly in comparison.]

Summary
"Sometimes, Atya — sometimes I fear I was born at the precipice of some disaster, and lived my life as an appendix to all the great tragedies of Arda," Elrond's smile twists bitterly. "That I am destined to only love the dying things of this world. I suppose this boy too is yet another of that tremendous procession of things that will one day come to pass."
"You were not destined to only love dying things," Maglor shakes his head calmly, as if delivering a lesson. "You were destined to be someone whom dying things cannot help but love. There is a difference."
______
Maglor makes his yearly visit to Imladris as Elrond is cleaning up after young Estel's memorably messy handwriting lesson, and the two have a conversation about fatherhood, oaths, and the inheritance of kindness.(all works in the Feral Children series can and probably should be read standalone)

Summary
The library at Amon Ereb was nothing to marvel at, but it was there, in the uneasy days of my youth, that I first came across these notes. They had been written by Maglor son of Fëanor at varying points over the course of the First Age, and were altogether a rather disorganised collection; but I found myself drawn to them the very first time I read them, for the care that had been taken in their composition, and in their preservation through defeat after defeat and flight after flight. Maglor was no healer, certainly not by the time I knew him: his hands had been bloodied too many times for that gift to have lingered, if ever he had it. But all the same, he paid great attention to the care of Maedhros his brother — there was no other Maedhros would permit to touch him, or speak to him when he had an episode.
-
Over the course of the First Age, Maglor kept a series of notes on the care of his brother. Millennia later, Elrond transcribes them.

“My dear Mr. Baggins, you cannot possibly imagine I have brought you across the boundaries of the sundered world, bending every law of gods and men, over land and over sea and through the fathomless heights, for your health? Well, I did, of course I did, and I’d do it again. But it was not for your own good only that I brought you here. I have been on this world a very long time, Mr. Baggins, and if there is one thing that I have learned about the Wise and the Great, it’s that they benefit from the company of hobbits, and it’s the wisest and greatest who have most need of them.”

In the years of Maedhros’ captivity Maglor would indulge himself, sometimes, and open the chest, and admire the treasure within as though he were yet a fanciful child trying on his brother’s baubles; and he would tell himself that he would hear Maedhros’ laughing voice at the door any moment now, saying, Are you going through my things again, little magpie?
