Summary
Star and Ray are soul pairs, this means that they are made for each other, and will be there for each other no matter what (don't worry, I won't use this as a "until they weren't/we didn't communicate and everything is bad now" kinda thing I don't like those) (basically very good friends)
They are going on their 'soul pair trip' (sort of like a honeymoon but platonic) when it gets derailed and they end up lost in the Outside. But it's all good cause a shadow creature they befriend will help them :D!
Except it doesn't know they come from the Rings. And brings them to some other dragon people that the Rings think just disappeared a bit ago. These people have a problem (someone is poisoning people and they need to stop). And they won't help Star and Ray home until they fix that.
OR
2 nd dragon shifter besties get lost and get sorta-kidnapped into solving a mystery before it turns to murder mystery. And I go way too into details.I don't really know how to do summaries I hope this is okay?

But Wilbur continued, voice still startling serious. “What if when you had found us in the woods, me, Techno, and Phil, it was because we had gotten lost when exploring the woods at our new size. What if the human house we told you we lived in was actually owned by us, as humans.” Wilbur’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Would you still trust us? Trust me?”
Tommy started squirming in Wilbur’s hold. This was going too far to only be some joke. Wilbur…Wilbur was serious, wasn’t he?
“Wilbur?” Tommy asked, matching Wilbur’s low whisper. “Are you human?”
“…Yes.”
Or; Tommy is a borrower who lives outside instead of in a human's home. When he met Wilbur, Techno, and Phil, he had no reason to suspect they were anything but borrowers as well. Turns out, that isn't exactly true.

Wilbur refused to look at his file. All he knew was that he was 7 years old and his name was Tommy.
He didn’t want to know whatever other labels the system stuck on him like a stamp. He wanted to get to know Tommy as Tommy was.
Not all his past.
So, when he saw how scared Tommy appeared, he knew he had a lot of work ahead of him.
Or, cat shifter Wilbur fosters mouse shifter Tommy, unknowing of the boy’s shifting capabilities. Tommy however, knows of Wilbur’s. And he knows what cats do to mice.
