“Does it scare you?”
Lalo takes a seat beside you on the hood of his car. Offers you a loose cigarette he keeps in his chest pocket. “Does what scare me?” You ask.
You can hear him smile. “That you might love me one day,” he says.

Took the title from Richard Linklater's new movie by the same name. I also took a few phrases from the movie and used it in the work (like Hart calls his glass of alcohol a "visual poem").

“Months?” The word dropped like a stone in Daniel’s gut.
“Do you think it’s easy?” A flicker of that old frustration surfaced. “Creating an alternative timeline for someone’s life? It is not something you do on an impulse. And it never completely… fits.” He looked away, the muscle in his jaw ticking. “I had to use your drug addiction as an excuse, a blanket explanation for a lot of the defects and gaps I couldn’t make work.”
Oh, so it hadn’t been a crime of passion; it had been a creative project. “You spent months brainwashing me?!”
