If Cameron’s there, or at the apartment Rupert let slip he’s rented for her in the city. If he’ll speak to her in that careful, mild way he’s adopted as of late, as if she’s a constituent and not someone who knows what his mouth tastes like.
Feeling tipsy and a little reckless, Taggie picks up the receiver.
Or, they kissed in the kitchen, and nothing's the same.

Looking back, everything began to crumble the moment his lips left hers.

It should have been the moment - the fairy tale, the answer to all this painful longing, the blasted distance, the wild bravery it took to let the words break free from her heart. In her mind she saw them riding off together on Rocky, the warm Aga and dirty laundry left behind, as he lifted her and carried her over the threshold of his manor, lonely no more.
Instead, Charles had stumbled into the kitchen looking for more wine, and their bodies pushed away from each other as if burned.
Or: a take on season 2, where Taggie refuses to be a secret, moves out of the Priory, and tries to build her own life apart from Rupert, Declan, and Venturer.
