“Your brother?” Usagi’s eyes grow wide. He wriggles in Leo’s arms, turning to look around the plaza like he just heard a bomb ticking. Leo holds him firmly in place.
“Now, I did say ‘don’t panic’-”
Usagi’s got all sorts of great looks, but this one might be Leo’s least favorite. It shuts him right up.

“Seriously? Sneaking out to see you? And to think I was the funny one! And for the record I didn’t even know you did shifts this late.”
This earned Leo a smile. “Sure, sure. Just making sure you’re not stalking me.”
“What, like you did with me? Or need I remind you?” He would never let Usagi forget.

Objectively, Leo knows that Donnie was worried about him. That his brother only sounds so condescending because he struggles with tone and doesn’t express his emotions the way Leo does. Normally that would be enough to make Leo take a step back and breathe. But… but….
He’s hurt, damnit.
And he knows, objectively, that he actively avoids getting caught. That if Hueso hadn’t asked him to babysit, Donnie wouldn’t have even noticed he was gone. But still-
“I’ve been gone for three days!” Leo shouts, holding up his hand to emphasis.

Summary
There’s a sudden interruption of light. It’s like a tiny, localized dawn in this corner of Brooklyn alone. A glowing circle hangs over the pier, spilling warm yellow across the water and the boardwalk.
Mikey’s senses go to war with themselves. Obviously, historically, random portals are no good. His head knows that. But his heart is soothed by it, the way he feels when Raph is late coming home from patrol and he finally walks through the door.
It’s golden and gentle and it feels like family.
His brothers are tense, but they haven’t sprung into action yet. No one’s speaking. They must feel it, too.
Rise!Mikey’s portal in the prison dimension takes Leo a little bit farther than he meant for it to. 12!Mikey finds a familiar-looking stranger.
