    Summary

There was something in his expression that Robin disliked immediately. Not cruelty or madness, but the hollow watchfulness of someone who had spent too long waiting for the next blow.

His swollen eyelids fixed instead on the dark corner beside the hearth, where the wall met the floor in a wedge of shadow. He stared at it for a moment too long.

Robin looked too. There was nothing but warped boards, a broom, and shadow.

Victor’s answer came in a whisper, “Because this morning it said my wife’s name.”

Robin knows how most hunts go. Find the monster. Kill it cleanly. Leave before the village remembers to fear you again.

She knows, too, what it means to wake beside Nancy and want that small softness to last.

Then an old grave keeper comes to them with a house full of shadows and the certainty that something inside it knows exactly where to bite.

    Summary

Robin swept into the shop with the energy of a windstorm that had learned how to walk, cheeks pink from the cold and eyes bright with mischief. She tipped her head back and inhaled like she was tasting the air.

“Oh,” she said reverently. “This place is delicious.”

Behind her, Steve ducked beneath the lintel, moving with the careful balance of someone who had learned how to stand between danger and other people without thinking about it. His eyes found Nancy’s and held there, earnest and uncertain, like he wasn’t sure whether he deserved to be seen.

Nancy felt the moment shift, routine cracking, something old and restless stirring beneath it. Whatever had been scratching at the edges of Hawkins had just found its way to her door.

The apothecary was supposed to be enough. Nancy built it with her own hands, filled it with remedies, and made herself useful in all the ways that counted.

But Hawkins has gone strange. The way towns do before something terrible happens.

And when rumors of a monster near the churchyard turn into a hunt, Nancy is forced out from behind the counter and into the path of something bigger than she ever let herself want.

    Summary

    “Max?”

“Yeah?” She looked back at Jane, who was shocked to see a twinge of hurt behind her eyes, but it was gone as quick as it had appeared.

“Boys are allowed to kiss boys,” She began, focusing intensely on making sure her words came out as intended.

    “Yeah.”

Her voice was a whisper now, a secret question approaching her lips.

    “Can girls kiss girls?”

Max’s eyes flashed with something Jane didn’t recognize. She felt a strange flutter low in her abdomen and squeezed her thighs inward as if to silence it.

“Y-yeah. They can.” For a split second, Max’s eyes traveled down to Jane’s lips, and the flutter became a pulsing heat that she couldn't ignore. She thought back to the last few months with Max. The way they had slept curled into one another, the way they would brush each other's hair, fingers grazing necks and shoulder blades in a way that could pass as an accident if no one admitted to it. She knew, then, why Max reminded her so much of Mike. Why Max felt like a better version of him.

    “Can I kiss you?”

Max teaches Jane what gay people are, but she's more of a hands-on learner.

    Summary

“You are probably right,” Jane blushed. “But Mike being bad at kissing does not mean I am good.”

    “Okay. Show me.”

Jane stared at her, unblinking. “What?”

“Not in, like, a weird way,” Max moved her hands down Jane’s arms ever so slightly. “Just, you want to learn about kissing, I know about kissing—I’m good at kissing, and I can teach you, if you want.”

Or: Jane has never felt fireworks when she kisses Mike. Max offers her a solution, but the consequences might be too much for their friendship to bear.

    Summary

Death is cruel, and living is much, much crueler. But having to live with yourself forever? That’s the cruelest fate of all.

Nancy Wheeler mourns for who she was and despises who she has become. Or rather what she has become, and the curse of destruction that came with it. Her very existence has morphed into something she sees as a blight against humanity, and she has vowed to make sure that no one should suffer the same fate as her. That no one should ever have to even come across monsters like her.

In the short year after becoming one herself, hunting vampires has become second nature to Nancy. She has never once had any pause in her crusade, driven purely by unbridled rage and blind hatred of all who cursed her to this life and shared her curse.

So then why, why was Robin Buckley different?
