As he stopped at a crosswalk and waited for traffic to clear, he watched the cat poke its head out of his pocket, turn its head curiously, and then frantically dart back inside his hoodie when a black sports car honked and took the corner a little too fast. Neil smiled softly and gave the cat a reassuring pet down its back before crossing the road, careful to keep his steps light and steady.
