Summary
“Stop teasing and get on with it already,” Light demands, petulant even though he’s trembling.
L stills his fingers. “Impatient, aren’t we?”
“I’m not going to ask again,” Light insists.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Kira-chan. I can make you beg.”
Light’s blood boils. He tells himself it’s purely rage, no arousal involved. “Then make me,” he snaps, like an animal backed into a corner.
After striking a deal with Light to become partners, L has turned "Kira" into a term of endearment. He uses it often, he's always been enamored with Kira, after all. "Kira-kun" is saved for rarer occasions when he's trying to get a rise out of Light, but he's never tried "Kira-chan" before.

Summary
“Fine," Light says. "I suppose I have a deadline, too?”
Ryuk’s feathers flutter. “Sure do! And it’s later than it was supposed to be, thanks to me. You’re welcome, by the way.”
Light knows better than to thank Ryuk. “When is the deadline?”
“It was supposed to be now, actually. But I made a little gamble of my own, and now you’ve got until the end of the week.”
“Ryuk,” Light says. “It is Wednesday night.”

Summary
“If you try to hurt anyone in this building, I will kill you.” L’s voice held no emotion. His eyes were the same cloudy gray that the sky had been the day Light gave up everything so he wouldn’t have to give up the only thing that mattered. It grounded Light. “Is that what you need to hear?”
Light nodded.
“Well,” L sighed. “Now that we have that out of the way, let me see your lesson plan.”

Summary
“Isn’t that how it goes, Light?” L continues, dragging a finger slowly down his spine towards his ass “You beg and I worship?”
Light nods desperately and L responds by pushing his head harder against the mattress, grip hard and purposeful.
Light pants against the sheets, shivers under L’s finger and hisses as his hair is pulled again.
“Just how you like it?” L asks, feeling Light nod under his hand “Just how my devilish little god deserves?”
The angel decorations on L and Light's new Christmas tree spark some feelings about worshiping, and there's no better way of reassuring Light that he's the only God in L's life than by fucking the knowledge into him.

Summary
“Satisfied?” Light grumbles into the phone, shutting his laptop with a soft click, and padding his way over to his bathroom. As he stands, L’s gentle voice crackles over the speaker.
“No, never.”
“Predictable,” he sneers, running his toothbrush under the tap water, “So, then, what would keep you satisfied? If anything.”
There’s shuffling on L’s end, before he says, fluid, like a paintbrush over wood, all too easy, like it’s the easiest thing in the world, “You.”
The Kira case wanes in 2004, and eventually goes cold. L departs from Japan, and five years go by. Until, one night in 2009, L tells Light that the Kira case is being reopened, and L wants to help acquit him before he is inevitably caught. But, like always, there is a catch that comes with L's favour, and now Light is stuck playing teacher in a house full of genius orphans while mending the rift that had blossomed between himself and L.

Favorite lines:
*His forehead presses into L’s chest through his shirt, and feels his heartbeat. He counts in his head. It’s also sixty. Their heartbeats are the same. They share the same fate, like L had said in that dream.
*He has read this poem, he has thought about this poem as he lathered shampoo in his hair, he has thought about this poem as he brushed his teeth, he has thought about this poem as he lay awake in bed, scornful, mournful, and irrevocably in love with the man in the driver’s seat.
*Light has brown eyes, Mello has to remind himself, Light has yellow-brown eyes. His eyes are not red. It’s a trick of the sun. His eyes are brown. “Good job,” Light says, and cannot help the curl of his lips into a wide grin. His teeth are normal. His teeth are normal. His teeth are not sharp. His eyes are not red.
*L does not want to die any more. He does not want to lose Light. If he dies, Light will not follow. The bells do not toll for the two of them.
