The side of Essek's mouth twitches and then settles. Caleb almost had him there. "The view?"
"Ah, do not mind me," Caleb demurs, and ducks his head back down.

Summary
They didn’t often get a chance to put aside their responsibilities. Olruggio was always swamped with buyers demanding new contraptions and Qifrey had lessons to teach, of course. The little alone time they had was often spent cooking and enjoying a few drinks. When a chance like this came along, they were loathe to miss it.

“Really? How so? Did you not have crushes back then?”
“Not really. I mean, there’s this notion that friendships aren’t as special as romantic ones, but I think our friendship is special.”
“We’re best friends. Of course it’s special.”
“What I meant to say is, the things couples do, a lot of them we do too, don’t we? We live together, we cook for each other, we’ve switched our tassels. We spent most of our time together, despite learning under different Professors, and even now I still enjoy most of my free time with you. So what’s the difference? The intimacy? You’re also giving me a massage at this very moment.”
Olruggio thinks of the teasing he endured from his cohort over his closeness with Qifrey, but his reasoning does shine a new light on the matter. “I see your point. I suppose it isn’t all that different. We even have our tax write-offs handled together.”
Qifrey asks Olruggio to help him wash his back in their overly-equipped bathroom.
