Summary
“You’re not there, Eliot.” A whispered voice reaches him. He almost thinks he imagined it, but then something presses against his hand and when he looks, it’s Parker’s sneaker.
“You’re here with me. We’re on our way to Sophie, remember? Stay with me, Eliot.”
Eliot’s eyes leave her sneaker and see her looking at him upside down through the small space under her arm. Her eyebrows are pinched, but she does her best to offer him a smile.
“Stay with me.”
He nods, swallowing down the apologies swelling in his throat, and crawls after her.

“That’s my cue,” he says and adrenaline spikes in Ed’s blood, making his hands tremble. Edward forces his arm to move forward, stabbing the blade into Stede’s side. He knows, in theory, that he needs to push harder, needs to jerk the blade so that it does more damage inside. Stede yelps in shock and Edward lets go of the blade like it was on fire. His hands are trembling and he takes a step back, bumping into the wall behind him.Stede’s excitement melts away in pained confusion and the world falls silent. Nothing exists outside of the confusion in Stede’s eyes.

“You’re our mastermind?” Eliot says, looking away from the commotion on the other side of the room.
“Just this once,” Nate agrees. Eliot turns a sharp eye on him.
“So how’s this gonna work, huh?” Eliot asks under his breath. “Can you even See anymore?”
Nate stares at him blandly. “I don’t need to See to do my job.” He steps away from Eliot and pretends he can’t feel Eliot’s eyes drilling into his back.
