Trapper didn’t give a shit if Hawk was a homosexual, but he figured he wasn’t really a homosexual. Trap had read Kinsey. Hawk thinking he was hot shit didn’t mean he was a no-frills homosexual, ‘cause a guy could like both. Hell, Trapper’d thought about it and came about to the conclusion that he’d probably have some fun with the right guy.
Maybe Hawk was the right guy, but Korea was one hell of a place to try to have that kind of fun in when Trapper had never tried before.

“Little birdie told me somethin’ after you discharged me this morning,” Trapper said over the rim of his martini glass. "Someone ain’t had his check-up yet.”
The knot of muscle pulling everything below Hawkeye’s belt taut yanked even tauter. Trapper knew why it was that he hadn’t had his check-up yet, and Hawkeye knew that Trapper knew that he knew that Trapper knew that.
There were certain kinds of sex he could only get from Trapper. Certain kinds of sex that were eerily similar in Hawkeye’s depraved and desperate mind to a certain stage of a certain medical once-over. Certain kinds of sex that Trapper had snuck out of being on Frank’s receiving end of by having that little ulcer and distracting everyone who wanted to from giving him a prostate exam.
Nearly a month had gone by since Trapper was laid up for his ulcer. Hawkeye was getting desperate.

“Then let me help you.”Four months ago, the Eridians found a human welded into a metal box on the bottom of an ocean made of human blood, and somehow that's not the weirdest thing about the man. Even after they let him out of quarantine, he doesn't talk much, and Grace keeps a cordial but distant relationship with him--until he gets sick with some mystery illness and Grace gets tasked with helping him recover, because surely he knows what to do. (Spoiler alert: he doesn't. But he figures it out.)

An Eridian mining crew find a human welded into a stranded ship on the surface of a moon. They bring him back to Erid, to the only other human they know.
Something in Grace's chest flickered into life. He had buried it so long ago that he hardly knew what it was anymore, and so he took off his glasses and cleaned them on the edge of his cardigan, as if Rocky's words were a smudge he could clear away before finding the will to hope.
“Ah…” his words failed halfway out of his mouth. Rocky chittered at him, a little sound of encouragement. “There’s another human? Here. And… alive?”

Summary
When peace is announced Trapper John goes to Maine to see his friend hoping to make amends and reconnect now that that chapter of their lives is fully closed.
Unfortunately, he was under the incorrect assumption that Hawkeye made it back not long after he did. Instead of finding Hawkeye he finds the extended Pierce family making ready for his arrival home. Cousin Bill is volunteered to help Trapper navigate the ruffled feathers he encounters--apparently Hawkeye is the only Pierce that doesn't hold on to a grudge.
He learns a bit more about his friend and worries it might be too late to say hello again, never mind goodbye.
