Summary
The worrying in your mind became louder as you settled for tracing over his features with your eyes. You often wondered if maybe you were making his already busy schedule unbearable. Inconvenient, even.
He was already stretched so thin. Having to keep up with you and your mistakes was surely making it worse, no?
It was at that moment you made a promise to yourself, quietly and painfully, to become less. Less loud. Less obstructive. Less needy. You could become that, someone that made an effort to ease his burden, not add to it.

God, he’s beautiful.
You had always thought so, of course. Even from that first moment you had met him in the street, seeing him tower above you.
There was a part of you – something small, fragile, like a dying ember – that wished to share this with him. It wouldn’t have to be long. Just a few seconds. To step into that gracefulness, even for a moment, and move alongside the man that had enraptured your heart and held it oh so carefully. What would it be like to shine so brilliantly?
No. It was better for you to stay where you were, perched on the sidelines. Here you could play the role of a supportive partner: quiet, unobtrusive. Not suffocating. Not a burden. And of course, never taking away from his light. Anything that would let you keep him for as long as he allowed someone like you to stay in his orbit.

“Terrible conversationalist as always, I see,” Oikawa said, leaning back. Like this, Tobio could see that he really had gotten broader, bigger, probably better. His shoulder pressed into Tobio’s who awkwardly leaned away, shifting into the wall. He sighed dramatically, “You aren’t going to ask how I am?”
Set during the brief holiday break of Tobio’s third and final year of high school. Things are about to end as much as they are about to begin. What better of a time to reconvene with the person he has always looked up to?
Whether it be growing older or growing up, some things will change and some things will always be the same.
