Summary
The ghoul stands a few feet away, swaying on his feet and silhouetted by the gleaming rad-storm. Without a second hand to hold it, her finger sits perched between his lips. Carefully, he guides the bloody end of it towards his right hand, connecting it with his own stump. Lucy might have hurled at the sight, if she weren't so incensed.
A few seconds pass before he releases the stolen digit from his mouth, thunder rumbles, and then — by some bizarre wasteland alchemy that she could never begin to understand — he wiggles the finger. Bends it forwards and backwards and twists it as if it is his own.
Lucy should be horrified.
Instead, she's just really ticked off.
Or, Lucy accidentally resurrects her new boyfriend, and the Ghoul accidentally binds his soul to the most ridiculous girl in the wasteland.

Summary
"Tell you what. I happened to have a good night yesterday, and — what the hell — I'm feeling generous, and horny, and it's not everyday a couple of knockouts come strolling through. So I'll cut you a discount." Lucy perks up at that, sure it'll still be too expensive but interested in hearing the figure nonetheless. "If your friend is willing to join us."
Lucy freezes. "He's not my—" She starts, then halts the thought immediately. It isn't worth trying to explain the nature of their relationship, not when she's entirely certain of it herself. Her eyes slide past Sandy and over to the bar top, where the Ghoul is sitting, his stiff back turned towards them.
She thinks the proposition would piss him off. So if all she gets out of this is an irascible ghoul and a make-out session with a beautiful woman, it will have been a pretty successful night.
Lucy nudges the woman out of the booth. "I think you'll have a better chance of convincing him than I will."

Summary
It is pertinent that you realize only some of what you have learned during your twenty-six years underground will matter up here. Of course, you will have already suspected this, long before you even considered setting foot on the surface.
Accepting that will will be the easy part.
The hard part? Learning that your hobbies and extracurriculars will get you much, much further than everything you thought would be important when it came to tackling the surface head on.

Summary
“Hang on, now Darlin’,” a sudden, brusque tug pulled her down and she lost her footing, falling into his lap.
She felt his breath on her neck, his lips brushing the shell of her ear when he spoke, “I don’t think I heard you right.” She gulped, stomach dropping as one of his arms snaked around her waist, the other came up to rest on her throat. She needed to disentangle herself, to get away from him, but he was too strong, and if she was being honest, she wasn’t trying terribly hard to get away. Lucy wasn’t sure she even wanted whatever was happening to stop.
“You tellin’ me Miss Prim and fuckin’ Proper was fixin’ to sneak into my room and let me break her in before her lil boyfriend?”
---Or
After losing her father and being abandoned by the Ghoul, Lucy spirals even with Max by her side, unsure of what she wants or who she is anymore. Luckily, a familiar face returns to help her explore all her worst impulses and vices to escape herself. But her evolving relationship with the Ghoul begins to drive a wedge between her and Max. How can she keep Max when she's not the person she was before? How can she tell the Ghoul she knows he's Cooper Howard, and why is he the only thing that feels like home?

Summary
He compares her to a piece of gristle once; tells her she’s gone and lodged herself between his teeth and nothing he does is enough to pick her out. The way he says it leaves Lucy unsure if he means it as a compliment or an insult, but the words stick with her all the same.
Because she can’t seem to get rid of him, either.

Summary
Lucy followed the Ghoul out of that shell-struck old observatory and through the ruins of things lost so many times over by this point it was a miracle anyone was around who could still put a name to them. Idly, she figured, he might be the only one left around here who could.
So maybe that was why she had thrown her lot in with his without much thought about it. Or maybe it was because she figured he, at least, would be upfront with her if he ever decided to throw her to the wolves. Or maybe, for the briefest of seconds, she had looked at him and thought, wildly, impossibly, that they might be on the same page. Or in the same boat, rather, one without any oars, and which was pitching dangerously.
Or maybe it was something else. Something lesser known. Something like fate, like a little whisper spoken so quietly she didn’t even know she had heard it. But she was listening, now, and the best thing she could do, she figured, was see this through to the end.
The Ghoul walked ahead, having similar internal dilemmas unbeknownst, albeit with significantly more swearing.

Summary
There is only one road to New Vegas—US Interstate 15, a straight run with no backroads or alternate routes, just a flat-out high-speed burn through Berdoo and Barstow and Baker and then on Las Vegas Blvd straight into frantic oblivion: safety, obscurity, just another freak in the Freak Kingdom.
Except… It's not a straight run. There are backroads and there is no safety in the Freak Kingdom.
Roadtrips! Angst! Lots of walking! A little bit of slow burn! Then uh-oh! We're exploring the in-be-tween here. All that good stuff we don’t get to see, like sex, eventually, because it’s great. What else is great? A broken man who can’t figure shit out. And pretending we don’t have feelings. Come have some fun.
