Rain whined quietly, pressing his nose to Dew’s sternum and feeling the bone beneath thin skin and lean muscle. “You don’t have to. I’m being a baby.”
“Stop,” Dew ordered, though his tone stayed gentle and loving. “You’re not being a baby. I know this shit hurts like hell. I’m not gonna pretend I get it, but… you’re not being a baby, darling. Here.” Dew wrapped his arms around Rain and held him close to his chest before slowly sitting up, bringing Rain up with him. “Lemme take you to the bathroom. You can get cleaned up and all, but I’ll bring you a change of clothes.”

"You don't seem fine." Mountain pressed gently. "You've been quiet and all hunched up. And earlier, when you snapped at Swiss? What's going on?"
"Nothing." Rain said through gritted teeth. His grip around his waist tightened slightly, his claws pressing into his sides through his sweater. "I'm fine."

It's their third trip out since they found the taumoeba.
The Hail Mary has been upgraded, and now runs with a crew of nine Eridians. Plus the human mascot, Grace.
It might be his last trip out, but Grace is making the best of it. He's just in the way at that point. His eyesight is no longer needed for the ship to run smoothly, and he could be teaching instead. He's enjoyed the trip. He really has.
But the last of the new beetles are off, headed to distant star systems. Grace was settled in at the viewport when they found an anomaly.
That's an odd astrophage signature.

No matter what Grace tries to tell him, Simon is very sure that the man is divine in nature. It just makes sense.

Simon winds up in The Enclosure, naturally. Grace is super down to have human company on planet Erid, but he really wishes someone would have given him a little bit of warning first. Especially about Simon’s religious cult upbringing — if he had known about that, he maybe could have planned a better-worded greeting that wasn’t basically, “Be Not Afraid.” He really set them up for failure with that one.
