Summary
If someone were to ask Mack how he and Will first met, he’d tell them that he doesn’t remember. That would be a lie.
Will moved in next door to Macklin when they were both four years old. Their windows look into each other’s rooms, and one day, Mack had scribbled on a big sheet of paper “doo u wanna b frens?!”, held it up to the window, and the rest was history.
Now, if someone were to ask him how long he’s known he was in love with Will, Mack would splutter, turn red in the face, and vehemently deny any such thing. They’ve been best friends for as long as he can remember, and that’s it. But that would be a lie, too.
Macklin doesn’t let himself think too hard about it. Everything is completely and totally fine. He is not losing his mind over possibly being in love with his best friend for the past thirteen years of his life because that would make him a bad friend. Who goes and falls in love like that? It’s stupid, so Mack doesn’t let himself dwell on it for too long.
Everything is fine.
OR: Macklin Celebrini falls in love with one Will Smith over their senior year winter break.

“If your boyfriend didn’t want to be checked maybe he should find a new fucking job,” Gabe snarled, shoving off the wall with enough force to send Will stumbling back a step.
“Talk about my boyfriend—” Will started only to be cut off by Gabe’s sharp gasp.
“Boyfriend?” Gabe said, dropping Will’s shirt like it burned him. The word hung between them, suddenly too big for the cramped hallway. Will blinked, his own anger stuttering.
Or Gabe and Will end up more upset about Matt and Mack scrum than Matt and Mack. Also Matt and Mack become besties.

Not wanting to look at who’d been calling him, he opened messages first. The most recent one, sent an hour ago, was from Sid. The start of the message reads “Just wanted to say that I’ve got your back…” before cutting off in the preview of the messages' opening page.
“Oh my god, people actually think we're gay. Sidney Crosby thinks I’m gay.” Mack could not believe it, so he just looked at Will in disbelief. How had something so innocent gotten blown so far out of proportion. Was the internet so desperate after Heated Rivalry for some actual gay hockey players that they had fit Mack and Will into their narrative?
