Karkat looked up at the orange and pink sky, it was actually quite beautiful if you thought about it. But it was turning brighter as he laid there with an aviator wearing eyesore. An eyesore he apparently can't scratch the mucus out of.
"Dave?"

"Do you think I'll just run into you one day, or even meet you when we go back?"
"I don't fucking know, Kat, maybe if you come up with some overzealous plan to try and get this ass ."
Karkat snorted and rolled onto his side to face Dave.

Summary
Karkat Vantas was sent on an expedition from Alternia with 11 other trolls, to find out what is causing major radiation damage to the Empire, and to escape it. The group of young trolls track it to the planet Earth just outside of the perimeters. On that planet the sun is very unusual, even for Alternia's standards. Especially the inhabitants on the planet; the humans, not to mention one wearing sunglasses. Karkat was expecting something weird to happen, but it wasn't about just the sun anymore. Well, maybe the sun. Or more, about the people getting burned by it.

It was always meant for there to be seven of them on this mission. Thanks to the twin's bond, there's eight. Taako didn't care how many people were around though, the only thing that mattered what that he didn't lose his sister. Thanks to the way they were rebuilt every year, he'd never have to worry about losing her again. That was all that mattered.
Or at least, it was all that mattered at first.
Taako wasn't sure when he started caring so much about the others, but he guessed it was inevitable. You don't go decades dying alongside the same people over and over again without a bond being formed. You can't spend a hundred years of little moments with people without those starting to mean something.
You can't just fall in love and have all of that amount to nothing in the blink of an eye.
