Summary
一部沒頭沒尾的故事，人生是一條公路，活在此時此刻就好。
夏爾覺得，當他們在這條公路上時，是親密無間的靈魂摯友，但當他們回到日常生活中時，又變成再平凡不過的路人。
「有時候只需一眼，緣分便悄然系上了。」
這句話是形容馬克斯與夏爾相遇時的畫面，沒頭沒尾、意料之外的，兩個從未來往過也互不認識的人，在雨天的校園中相見，便一同踏上沒有目的地的西行之旅。
他們都是哥倫比亞大學的學生，天資聰穎、高傲，這大概是他們少之又少的共同點，除此之外沒有任何人覺得這兩個人還有絲毫的相似之處，更別提他們會成為朋友了。
夏爾也從未想過，但他不想思考這個問題，他只需要一趟離開東邊的旅行，而遇上馬克斯的當下，想像即化為現實。
他們坐上了馬克斯的車子，一輛雪弗蘭，夏爾不知道他是從哪裡搞到的，但他不在意，即使是偷來的他也允許，因為他只需要上路。
兩人在沒有告知任何人的情況下離開了紐約——他們的紮根之處。遠離了家人、朋友、故鄉、身分，還有一切的安全感，與痛苦。
