Trey Clover is known as the most wanted man in the entire queendom, and that’s putting it lightly. He's hot, he's wealthy and he's kind. Unfortunately, as vain as Cater is, he's under no delusion that he has a shot with the Queen's advisor, royal ball or not.
Besides, he’s not going to fight the entire queendom for him; that would just be ridiculous.
He's going to sit at home, sulk in his own misery and move on with his life. No birthday parties, no weddings, no magical jesters that can turn cauldrons into carriages. Nothing.

He can see Cater’s jaw shift as he takes in the words, and feel under the table how his leg becomes bracketed by both of Cater’s in some far away plea for touch. Cater uncrosses his arms and reaches a hand out over their tiny little dinner table.
Trey smiles, which Cater tilts his head subtly forward at, expression serious and insistent. Something like You don’t need to smile for me. Something that knows him better than he knows himself. He takes his hand.

His sharp honeymelon eyes, teeth so white they’re blinding even in the dark, the arc of his cupid’s bow, those arms. Holy shit, he’d do anything for those arms alone if, y’know, Cater was in the business of being a whipped little bitch.
“Should we do that?” Trey asks. Well, now he’s just torturing him for fun. Cater meets his incessantly charming gaze with a glare.
His voice is high and unsteady when he squeaks, “Uhhhh, up to you.”

i will forever be indignant that they cut out my precious character development tart scene out of the anime so this is a missing scene fic: trey and cater clean together and talk and hold each other a little bit accountable, maybe.
