    Bucky Barnes has had a couple of rough years. But, he has some sort of a life together now and is functioning, which – contrary to what Steve says – has to be enough.
    At least until he meets that strange girl one night, who gives him the brightest smile he’s ever seen, and offers her a ride.
    Initially, all he really wanted was to blow off some steam, pretend that he’s just some normal guy again, until he starts to worry that you might see all of his secrets if you keep looking at him long enough with those pretty eyes…

    It's been six months to the day.

    That horrible, soul-shattering, world-ending day. The day Quentin Beck took a metaphorical machete to his chest and carved out his heart, tucking a devastating promise in the newly vacated hole and sewing it back up.

    Tony sighs heavily, the sound breaking on a near-sob. He glances down again, halfway to deliriousness, at the phone in his palm. There's nothing. No notification, no indication that what Beck promised is going to come to fruition. It causes him to grimace, to pull even deeper into the cushion of the couch.

    "Nothing?" May asks quietly, chewing the tips of her finger-nails. She glances down at the phone he holds, her eyes red-rimmed and wide, matching his in desperate yearning. "It's been- it's been six months, that's what he said-"

    "Yeah," Tony chokes out. "Six fucking months-"
