“Shane,” Ilya said slowly, putting his phone in his pocket as he walked into their home gym to find Shane running on the treadmill. “Do you mean to tell me that the years of you doing ‘just a little promo’ has actually been you tormenting David Mitchell with your apparently not incredibly boring life? And you never thought to mention it once?”
“Huh?” Shane called, slowing the treadmill to a walk to glance over his shoulder at where Ilya was stood. “What do you mean?”
“I mean there are lots of tweets here about you on these shows and you seem to be giving all of them aneurysms?” Ilya said, pulling his phone back out and opening up twitter to show Shane.

Summary
After coming out to Rose, Shane decides he doesn't want to lie anymore, even if he isn't sure coming out will mean he gets happily ever after with Ilya. When coming out to the Voyageurs leaves him wondering what his future in Montreal might look like, he lets himself be a little selfish, he lets himself wonder if there might be somewhere else he might be happy. If Montreal wants to get rid of a generational player, he's not about to stop them, especially if it means he can get a little closer to joy.

This story (and the equally incredible part 2, with it's truly heroic number of manips) reminded me that I need to spend more time thinking about Skip because Scott Hunter really is That Guy. It also made me so deeply said for canon Shane & Ilya getting outed against their will - getting to watch them do it on their own terms was so healing and lovely.
