‘John Walker’s eyes take Anne in, quickly assessing her appearance. Her slightly androgynous look is further emphasized by the faded jeans, t-shirt and work boots. He’s heard stories about Anne Lister, his mysterious neighbor from Shibden Hall. The rumors of her being the female version a libertine, a lothario run rampant throughout Halifax, precede her. But he’s also heard about her reputation as an outstanding project manager and a clever businesswoman. He’s willing to forego his personal opinions on the rumors of her sexual prowess if he can get a quality product out of her. Besides, he has nothing to worry about with his daughters. After all, the eldest is married, and the youngest all but engaged.’
The AU where Anne Lister is a construction manager and builds a house for Ann, paid for by her father, John Walker.
What could possibly go wrong? :-)

How strange - how strange, indeed. To be given counsel well enough that she, Anne Lister, should find comfort in it. Heed it. Be soothed by it. She who brushes away advisors like gnats about a steed. The men who underestimate her. The sister who nags her. The gossipy swarm of those in Halifax who vex her.
And yet Miss Walker, face tilting up towards her own, speaks so earnestly. Finds the very wound within Anne’s heart and cups it with careful fingers. Does not press. Is given the opportunity, and she does not press.
