Summary
Everyone knows bits and pieces of the Nomai before they died, but not everyone is certain of how it exactly went, day by day. This is the story of the Nomai, later on in their society, from a more intimate POV. Cotton is often scared of his environment, but nevertheless, he is fascinated by it. He is passionate about crafting, and it shows. All along his life, it will be proven again and again, that he is never alone. Yet time is not so friendly in the end, and it all comes tumbling down before everyone's eyes, and the world falls cold and still, but never silent.

Summary
"There's something down there," you say, as afternoon light catches something metallic in the subterranean caves, something unknown flashes like the sun on the scales of the silver fish that swim in the river outside the crater.
"Gabbro says that before Slate made the big rockets, they used the geysers to help launch the first ships. We were too little to remember. Lots of the first ships didn't make it. The water came up and just blew them apart."
"Gabbro says a lot of things. Gabbro says there are trees that move around when you're not looking at them."
"Gabbro's going to be a real astronaut soon," Hal says, and you can feel their forehead wrinkle in doubt. Gabbro is the best at stories, but they're also the best at tricks and pranks, so it's a tough call which of you is more right.
You both fall into thoughtful silence, and if you squint against the dark and the deep you can kind of identify the silver something as a fuel canister, or maybe a tin of salted fish. But that might just as well be regular old garbage from when the grown ups stay up too late and drink too much, and not the remains of a broken rocket that couldn't make it into space.
It's a thought worth thinking about, though.

Summary
You weren't a technician, you weren't a security guard, you weren't a daycare assistant. You're just an employee. Staff. The ‘jack-of-all-trades’ employee with mediocre at best skills and specialty in none, tasked with doing miscellaneous jobs that robots couldn't do and human staff couldn't care to. The job is unpredictable, but it pays good and it's relatively easy.
Except for the part where all the animatronics are more sentient than you thought, and you're roped into a mystery surrounding the Daycare Attendants, who are bit too curious about you for your liking.
You don't think this was in your employee contact.
