John Doe has spent his entire life dividing himself between who he is now and who he just was. Compartmentalize the grief, the trauma, the pain, and let it be someone else's problem in your head. You're not a new person now, of course, that couldn't possibly happen for you. Just shove it all aside and leave it alone, no matter how it might scar you on the inside. It must become part of the abstract, the nameless, thoughtless way of who you really are.
You've buried a lot down there, John. Something's gotta give. Or do you not want to be John Doe for real, without hesitation, without remorse, without question?
