“Miss Grant, I’m happy you called. We might have a situation. Is Kara with you?” Alex asks, cutting right to the chase as always. Cat likes that about Alex; there’s no bullshit or trying to beat around the bush.
Cat looks up to find her assistant staring intently at her through the glass walls. “Unless there’s a new double I don’t know about, she’s currently looking right at me and eavesdropping, yes,” she says pointedly, raising a disapproving brow when Kara doesn’t even try to hide it, instead giving her a damn smirk again.
“Maxwell Lord just contacted me and said there’s been a theft.”
“And what exactly was taken?” she asks, holding Kara’s gaze. She has already hazarded a guess, but in a world of superheroes it’s best not to jump to conclusions.
"Red Kryptonite." Cat feels a cold shiver of fear slide down her back at the confirmation of her suspicions.

“What the hell do you think you're doing?”
The shrill voice of their boss cuts through the room before Kara has managed to process what's happening. She stumbles over her own feet in her haste to pull away.
“Miss Grant, this is not what it looks like, I swear,” Kara tries to assure the woman quickly, wiping at her mouth and ignoring James’ bewildered look as she eyes their boss desperately.

a possible way for James to learn he's too late (because I'm so disappointed in how he handled Red Kryptonite Kara if he's supposed to be a love interest)

“Are you- Are you drunk?” Kara asks warily, allowing her senses to fully take in the other woman for the first time since she showed up at her door unannounced. There’s the faintest trace of alcohol when she searches for it, but not enough to really warrant her query.
Cat shrugs. “I may have had a few drinks to boost my courage, but you know better than anyone that I can hold my own.”
“This is…I don’t even know what to say. Is this some kind of joke?”
“I never joke. When have you ever known me to make a joke?” Cat tells her and is that an actual pout on her boss’ face? Kara is pretty sure she’s experiencing vertigo right now.
“I’m sorry, I just need a moment,” Kara says, hands moving to fiddle with her glasses as she tries to take everything in. This whole situation feels surreal. There is no way that Cat Grant - her boss - is saying what she thinks she’s saying. Right?

“Oh.” Cat pouts at her assistant’s words. She hates when people actually have valid reasons for doing something that causes her offence. She doesn’t really do regrets or apologies, but then she remembers what happened that morning and gives Kara a semi remorseful look that has the girl frowning with worry.
“What did you do?” her assistant asks warily and it takes a conscious effort for Cat to not bite her lip or allow a flush to make it’s way up her neck. Cat Grant doesn’t do embarrassed either.
“I...may have ruined some of your utensils.”
