A whistle breaks through the groans and growls, the war cries cease as more rifles are pointed at him. Zack half expects them to shoot, to finish the job and ignore the clear call to attention from their superior officers. The three troopers stop and Zack is too tired to even attempt to step forward, to use the distraction to his advantage. What he does, instead, is follow the troopers' gaze in the same direction.
