Ariana watched her for a second longer than was strictly necessary, then narrowed her eyes slightly, though there was no real accusation in it. “Will you go to karaoke with me?”
Cynthia finished her sip and set the glass down.
“I don’t sing.”
It was the first time she had said something while not quite looking at Ariana, and Ariana immediately noticed the difference. Her gaze had dropped to the table, the rim of the glass, the pale pattern of condensation gathering beneath it. The line of her mouth remained composed, but something in the angle of her face suggested a tell had just been uncovered.
Ariana smiled to herself. “Everyone sings a little.”
Cynthia hummed softly. “Yes, that’s true.”
