    chapter 10: after getting caught sneaking out, detention with gojo proves to be a headache, but with some new found courage you and gojo grow closer.

    “yeah! okay! let's go after this?” you glance up to notice his eyes, half visible behind his dark glasses, practically flashing in excitement.

    “.. uh, yeah right after this.” you nod your head, a twitch in your lips.

    “okay, i can call shoko and suguru when we’re don–” half pulling out his phone from his back pocket, phone charm jingling as he unlocks his phone. But with the sound of the clearing of your throat, he hesitates and looks over at you, his eyes widening at the sight of your sheepish face, slight blush dusting the plains of your cheeks, flashing quickly.

    “hm, i thought we could just go? like just us…” you mutter.

    “So… I know it’s a cliche and all, you know, going abroad and doing my hot boy summer— I met someone.”

    It doesn’t really come as a surprise. Satoru is beautiful, funny, and disgustingly charming. He’s also annoying and absolutely full of himself but hey, Shoko fell for him too despite that, so what’s stopping other people?

    “You got a new girlfriend.” Shoko plainly says. 

    or the one where shoko has been in love with her best friend for three years and counting out of the twelve she's known him, and how she's perfectly fine with leaving things the way it is.

    "Why did he reach out to you instead of me?”

    Shoko feels Gojo’s question on her skin first, the heat of his words. Something softer than anger but still filled with hurt. She starts to inch away but Gojo catches her by the shoulder, keeping her in place, their bodies lying parallel on her bed with scarce space between them. Sweat sticks his palm to her skin. She can feel his heartbeat in her bones, rapid and alcohol-addled.

    “I don’t know,” she says. Gojo’s grip on her shoulder tightens for one moment then loosens, his hand falling to the mattress. She hears him turning away from her, a door slamming shut.

    “I think you do,” is all he says before reaching out to turn off the light, plunging both of them into the dark.

    Or: After Geto defects, Shoko and Gojo reckon with what he’s done to them and what they are to each other.
