Slowly, somewhere between 4th and 5th grade, all of the Pogues develop some sort of an affinity for physical touch and it never really means anything.
Until it does.
She’s 10 the first time she hugs him, but she’s 14 when she realizes that the hugs he gives her (and the arms he throws around her small shoulders, and the pinky promises they share, and the feet they throw into each other’s laps…) give her butterflies.

Kiara closed her eyes and sucked in a deep breath. She opened her eyes on the exhale and JJ could immediately see the hurt in them. “Yeah, I know. I could tell. Guess everyone’s lying in this group, huh?”
