Tommy flinched back from the river. “It boils souls?”
“If Bible fanfiction is legit, then yes,” Techno said, straight-faced.
He stared at him. Even in a realm with glass as pavement and a never-ending red glow, whatever Techno had just said was much weirder.
"Dante's Inferno? The classic? You've never read it?"
Tommy simply blinked at him.
“Forget I asked,” Techno sighed. “It states that Phlegethon is there to punish. How much you’ve sinned and committed violence is how deep you’d have to stand.”
The other edged further away from the flaming lake. “So not the time for your swimming lessons, okay.”
“Shut up.”
Tommy didn’t expect to be given a quest. Sure, Apollo’s flesh could be ambiguous. But not so much when your next of kin was a nine-year-old.
He also didn’t expect a Roman Praetor with way too many titles and a weird grudge against him to come as well. But maybe falling into literal hell could fix a couple of misunderstandings.

Summary
Steve Rogers never liked bullies, and who likes fascists. He was a little stand-up guy, with an immigrant back-ground. Even after Project Rebirth... Thrown into the modern world, where a lot of things had changed, he stumbled a bit, at the beginning, but he learned fast. Hydra was still out there and had ruined Bucky's life. Then the Sokovia-Accords were introduced, coming for all of the 'enhanced' people.
He fought as good as he could during 'Civil War', but at the end the Avengers were broken.
But he has friends to save, and with some unexpected new friends, they might have a chance to oppose the U.N. and Thaddeus Ross. If that has to happen against Team Iron Man, then so be it. Steve is not going to back down. He didn't as a little boy on Brooklyn's dirty streets, he didn't do it after Bucky fell.
He won't follow rules or laws which are unjust, that go against the core of his being. He knows where that leads.Others had to live through WWII, too. They might remember Cap & The Howling Commandos firsthand.
Some old guy might say that he was right all along, you know. Maybe it would be wise not to fuck with people the old guy cares about, and that might not just mean his granddaughter.Series
