Ymir clung to Reiner’s armor as they ran across the sprawling grassy hills of Paradis, the dunes and ocean in the distance appearing like a wall of water. A wall between them and home, between Ymir’s new life and her death. She tried not to think about Historia and her tears, her harsh words when she realized what Ymir planned to do. If Historia could drag Ymir back behind the walls, she would, that Ymir knew. They would live out the rest of their days on a farm, far from the war and Historia’s responsibilities. But that was a fantasy and Ymir’s fingernails dug into the plates of Reiner’s back, pulling her further from her love. Bertholdt was in his hands, his Titan form ill suited for the journey and body exhausted. They had each other and Ymir was alone again.
