Summary
His head throbbed, dull and mean behind his right eye. Every jostle of the streetcar sent another pulse of pain through his skull, like someone tightening a screw in slow, deliberate turns. The city's usual morning clatter—bells, wheels, voices—stabbed straight into the center of his brain like needles.
He shifted minutely in his seat, trying to breathe through it. A sharp ache lanced through his ribs, deep and stabbing.
Right, that too.
His suit coat concealed the worst of the bruising, but every bump in the track was a fresh reminder: the fight last night hadn't been clean. He'd won, yes, but the man had gotten his hits in.
Keep it together.
But his thoughts were starting to lag. Everything felt slow. Disconnected. It seemed his mind was three steps behind his body, and both were moving through molasses.

Summary
Vox stood a few paces behind the lighting rig, just outside the camera’s view, arms crossed and watching. Or at least, pretending to. He was trying hard to look like he was supervising—like he had everything under control. But something in the way he was holding himself made your skin prickle.
He was swaying.
Subtle, like someone shifting their weight. But not the casual kind. No—it looked like his knees were going soft beneath him.Something was wrong. Really wrong.

Summary
“And Lucifer,” Vox continues conversationally as he rubs his fingertips over the hot, strained fabric. “I know you’re not a big fan of the guy. I can see why—he is so beneath the both of us.”
“Y-yes,” Alastor gasps, bucking into Vox’s touch. “He is.”
“It was thrilling, wasn’t it? To see someone finally put him in his place. Completely decimate him in front of all those people; people who were once his.”
“I—I’ve been wanting to do that.”
“I’m sure.” Vox unbuttons Alastor’s slacks, slow and unhurried like he isn’t seconds away from snapping and just ripping all his clothes off. “But it was me who did it. I humiliated the King of Hell. Not you.”
After the rally, Vox finds Alastor hot and bothered in his chair from watching him expertly manipulate the crowd. It's truly his winning day.

Summary
In one glorious half-hour, Alastor has broken or completed three contracts, freed himself from two separate forms of bondage, and enjoyed a rousing jaunt through nearly half the Pentagram. Incidentally, he may also have shattered Vox’s psyche and his heart. But you know what they say about making omelettes; that was a price he was prepared to pay.
He is less prepared to be personally tasked with unscrambling the eggs.

Summary
"...You haven't slept in three days?"
His hands slide around to the back of his neck, feeling for signs of overheating. Vox's skin is warmer than it should be, like he's running a fever.
"Vox, cosa pensavi?? You're going to fall apart at this rate, tesoro!!..."
Vox squinted at Valentino. "Can’t understand that fucking island language bullshit and you know it-"
