Summary
Daydreams lay within Dream's domain, and they can be quite powerful, if only created with enough intent. And Hob's intent is potent, strong and sweet, reaching even into the cage Dream is kept in, feeding him power needed to free himself. Without knowing it, Hob saves him, and Dream gets to have his revenge, merciless and brutal.
With that done, he's free to visit the man who unknowingly saved him, finally have the happy ending they both deserve.
or in 1989 hob daydreams. dream escapes the cage, goes apeshit and murders some people, and then goes to kiss his human. in that order

Summary
Hob sustains a mortal wound when he instinctively blocks an attack meant for Dream. Before this, Dream has never been a witness to any of Hob’s “deaths.” Even though it’s only temporary, the shock and sorrow immediately overwhelm him, and he burns. Everything.
Hob catches glimpses of the chaos during his resuscitation.

Summary
It has had many names over the years - Melancholia is the one he is most familiar with, but Depression is the modern day term.
Hob Gadling had hoped that for once, he would escape its clutches after his centennial visit from his stranger (now friend). Especially with the promise of another visit much sooner than one hundred years.
However, he's not that lucky - but this time, he has something he did not have before. A friend, who is not willing to be driven away.
