That’s Dex. Nursey opens his eyes, then immediately slams them shut again. “Yeah. I’m—I’m fine.”
“Are you sure? Did you hit your head? Open your eyes.”
Nursey does so, reluctantly. He’s got a full face of Dex, who’s kneeling over him, and Nursey suddenly wants to find another set of stairs to fling himself down.
Because over the summer? Will Poindexter got motherfucking hot.

“Alien…aphrodisiac.” James blinks and takes a few deep breaths, absorbing the information to scratch his head over later. Steve’s the priority now. “At least tell me he didn’t leap into the path of the alien whatever.”
The Widow laughs. It’s half for show, James knows, but he thinks he can see genuine amusement in her cool green eyes. Steve’s better at reading her, but Steve’s apparently busy rubbing one out in the bathroom.
“Not this time,” she says. “It’s not a weapon. One of the scientists grabbed the first thing they could in a panic. Steve was the only one in the room with them and got a faceful of blue dust. The effects took a couple of hours to show.”
“And the scientist who used it?”
“Was trying to fuck a wall, last I saw.”
James grimaces.
“It’s not very dignified,” the Widow adds, noting his expression. “Like I said, either the serum’s handling the worst of it or Steve’s real superpower is his moral compass.”

“Y’know,” Nursey starts, then stops.
“Hm?” Dex prompts over his hammering heart, glued to every syllable Nursey’s willing to give him. “What?”
“I may have lost at beer pong,” Nursey says, his gaze for sure dipping down to Dex’s lips and lingering there for a moment this time, “but there’s other stuff I’m better at.”
Dex is blaming the drinks he's had for the way he matches Nursey, letting himself look down at this pretty mouth so openly, then back up to his eyes, for the way he pushes and asks, “Oh yeah? And what’s that?”
That’s all it takes, apparently. Nursey leans in closer slowly, giving Dex enough time to call it, to pull back, to pop this moment like a bubble and forget it ever happened. But Dex doesn’t.
Or, 8 times Nursey and Dex kiss without talking about it and 1 time they do.

Summary
“No,” Dex says, not looking up from his homework, the moment that Nursey bursts through the door of the basement bungalow. The man has at least finally learned to knock first, though he never actually waits for Dex to answer.
“I didn’t even say anything yet,” Nursey pouts.
Dex keeps his eyes fixed firmly on the textbook on his desk, refusing to glance back over his shoulder and see whatever stupid expression Nursey is probably making at him. Nursey has a full arsenal of expressions at his disposal that all seem tailormade to chip away at Dex’s steady resolve. And it’s been getting harder and harder over the years not to let anyone see that, especially Nursey.
“You didn’t have to,” Dex says. “I could hear you psyching yourself up on your way down the stairs.”

Everyone looks around, until Hops speaks up. “Oh! There he comes!” he says, pointing at the staircase.
It’s exactly like Nursey to be fashionably late to his own party, Dex thinks as he turns to look.
He regrets it almost immediately, though, when he actually catches sight of Nursey.
So what if his best friend and crush is dressed as a hot vampire with his really nice chest glittering under the string lights and his tighter pair of dress pants? Dex can handle this.
Or, the one in which Nursey dresses up as a vampire for the Haus Halloween Kegster and Dex can definitely not handle it.
