“It’s- I’m-” Joel sputtered. Cleo had barely done anything and he was already flustered.
This was not going well, he was never planning a surprise again, this was so stressful, why would he do this to himself- He heaved a sigh and ran one hand through his hair, offering the other to shake. “Hi, I’m Joel, I’m looking for Lizzie, my girlfriend, and I think she lives here…?” He trailed off, lifting the last few words, accidentally twisting them into a question.
She barked a laugh and ignored his hand to open the door the rest of the way.
“Hi, I’m Cleo.”

“Hi.” Ren clasped the hand Martyn had extended once he was within reach and Martyn pulled him up to stand in front of him.
“Oh, hello.” They stood chest to chest for a moment before Martyn let go and gestured toward the notebook. “Tactician on the cards, huh?” Ren’s face twisted slightly as he stuck the little book in the front pocket of his comically patterned shirt. If he didn’t want to tell Martyn, that was fine. They weren’t supposed to be friends here.

Summary
When Steve returns to his Brooklyn apartment as suddenly as he’d disappeared from it, all he can do is stare and blink into the middle distance for a while, his lips still tingling with the warm buzz of kissing Bucky Barnes, heat in his cheeks still blazing.
I was just in another timeline, Steve thinks to himself, as his knees give out and he sits with a plop on his bed. Or another universe? He’s still not entirely sure what the appropriate terminology is. Or maybe he hadn’t actually visited another timeline/universe and he hadn’t seen a bunch of alternate versions of himself, all of them significantly more swole than he is, even the lady version. Maybe it had all just been a really vivid dream. Or maybe he’s had a psychotic break. Maybe there’s a gas leak in the apartment. That happens, right?
Or maybe he really did meet the possible love of his life in another universe. Now it's time for Steve to find him in this one.
[This is a side story to if I'm gonna get back to you someday, following the modern AU, non-serum version of Steve from the clusterfuck of Steves. It might not make much sense without having read that one first.]

‘I’m sorry’ will never be in Billy’s vocabulary. They are just two dirty words that liars and cowards use. But he knows what it means to be sorry.
Billy picks up a butterfly bandage, holds it between his fingers for Steve to see. Waits for Steve to drop his chin in a nod, and then presses it into place against Steve’s busted eyebrow. It’s the best Billy has to give.
This probably isn’t going to work out. This thing Billy’s been trying to have with Steve since he got to Hawkins. Steve’s got these soft edges where Billy’s all blunt and sharp.
Billy drags his fingertips down the side of Steve’s face, presses his thumb against the scar he didn’t leave, and lifts a brow. “How many fights do you lose, Harrington?”
Steve grins, a half-formed thing that is sharp and sad at the same time. “All of them.”
