Oscar suspects the reason is that if Lando knows she’s a lesbian, she is only one more step away from finding out about Oscar’s huge, ridiculous, six-year crush on her.

Lando had spent hours getting ready after work for their first date, taming and styling his unruly curls, carefully curating an outfit, even doing a little bit of makeup.
Carlos was late. Seventeen minutes late, leaving Lando stewing at the table. He’d looked up to the sound of footsteps, mouth opening in a friendly greeting, when he’d had to stop short in his tracks.
Carlos was wearing jeans.
Jeans.
or: Lando has learnt his lesson not to put in effort for people who don't return the favour, after a disastrous date. That is, until, he's rescued by a particularly handsome guy and decides that maybe this one will be worth it.

Summary
At nine that night, Lando’s dad leaves for the airport. Lando wonders why it’s called Bristol Airport when it’s not even in the city.
He isn't even worried when his dad and Oscar are late. It’s Christmas Eve, the roads will be busy with last-minute commuters.
He does start to worry, however, when his dad messages him.
Oscar's plans to spend Christmas with the Norris family go awry when his flight gets delayed. Lando tries his best to enjoy Christmas without him — but it turns out that he doesn't have to.

“If you’re kissing all your girls like that,” Oscar starts, his voice is slower, drawn out, “Then its no wonder they aren’t moaning.”
It’s almost goading, the way he says it—the words undercut with a challenge. Oscar knows him too well to assume he’s going to back down.
”Yeah?” Lando tilts his head, eyes narrowing, “Big talk, Piastri. You think you’re a better kisser than me?”
Oscar rolls his eyes at his tone, there really isn’t a reason for them to be doing this. ‘Just because’ isn’t a good enough reason to make out with your best friend, no matter how drunk or high you are, and Oscar knows that. But it sticks in his chest like nicotine tar, aches with every shuddering breath he sucks in.
