His life with you hasn’t been bad either. You’re kind in that strange, coddling way that always feels off. Kokushibou isn’t stupid. He’s a long-lived demon who’s seen plenty of cruel situations happen to his kind. He knows when a human isn’t what they appear to be. But after three months of living with someone who seems solely intent on taking care of him, his guard is starting to drop. You liked his owner, after all. You must be fond of him.

Summary
The places where demons fight aren’t meant for anyone to come out alive. They’re not supposed to happen. The kinds of brutal, tearing each other to shreds brawls that go down in fight rings are deemed inhumane by even the species that owns them like property. But, so long as the owner keeps quiet enough, no one will stop them. No one will shut it down.
Sanemi’s body is covered in scars. He can hardly remember a time when it wasn’t. He hurts, hurts, hurts more often than not, but he’s gotten so used to it that the absence of pain is almost worse than its presence. Pain is comforting, in a way. It means he survived. It means he’s still alive.
